I’ve been a fan of the standard Blanton’s Original for years, but after finally getting my hands on this Takara Red, I don't think I can go back.
Most people see the same 93 proof and assume it’s just a fancy red box for the Japanese market, but the juice inside is on a completely different level. The minimum 8-year age statement changes the entire experience. Where the regular bottle is bright and citrusy, this Takara Red is dark, rich, and incredibly velvety.
Why this is the superior pour:
• The Mouthfeel: It has a much thicker, "chewier" texture than the standard single barrel. It coats the palate instead of just washing over it.
• The Flavor Shift: You lose that sharp rye bite and replace it with deep notes of black cherry, toasted oak, and dark chocolate. It tastes like a more "mature" version of the Blanton's we all know.
• The Finish: It’s exceptionally smooth. Even at the same ABV, the extra years in the barrel have mellowed out the ethanol, leaving a long, warm finish of baking spices and caramel.
If you’re on the fence because you think you’ve already "tried" Blanton’s—trust me, you haven't tried it like this. It’s a sophisticated, complex bottle that justifies the hype. I’m incredibly happy with the purchase; the shipping was seamless and the packaging arrived in mint condition.
